Month: April 2012
I must admit that I have a bit of a jumpsuit and playsuit obsession at the moment, ‘Traffic People’ have a few of my favourite designs :
When researching visual inspiration for my Fashion Drawings, who better to look at than my favourite designer Fam Irvoll! I love her ‘Monstermash’ (AW 12/13) collection, as with all her work it’s so very playful and fresh.
So I’ve been visiting a diverse range of places to spark ideas for this project; yesterday I went for a stroll in Brick Lane to look in the vintage clothing stores for inspiration into print/dress design for my illustrations followed by the Geffrye Museum (Bethnal Green) where I looked at the trend/lifestyle changes over the decades in the home.
As always I aim to create an eclectic fusion of vintage and contemporary imagary.
As mentioned in a previous post I am creating a body of work which is to be exhibited at ‘The Idea Store’ (Canary Wharf Branch) in May 2012.
I have spent the past 2 days researching and drawing in preparation, although vintage pin-ups playing sports seem like a very fitting theme for this project I feel that my best work is always produced when I don’t put up strict barriers or rules, so the initial research and drawing is always very personal and of anything which inspires me (this can then be moderated/developed to fit the brief).
I started drawing at ‘The Museum of Docklands’ yesterday, I felt this would be the perfect place to start as the final pieces are being exhibited in Tower Hamlets (aswell as the Olympics being held in East London) so detail of imported goods or anything iconic of the area would be great to incorporate; not necessarily in an obvious way to the viewer but maybe form a part of the pattern on the model’s garment or even part of her body.
Today I visited ‘The Museum of Childhood’ and ‘Pollocks Toy Museum’ to sketch some of the vintage doll and then can take elements from these drawings and incorporate them into the final pieces.
I have made all the changes/amendments to my Space Dolly Neckscarf Design and I will be sending it off to be printed onto fabric next week!
In May I shall be exhibiting my work at ‘The Idea Store’ (Canary Wharf branch) and with the 2012 Olympics being hosted in East London I felt this would be a fitting theme.
I am going to use vintage pin-up girls as my main source of inspiration, aiming to create a collection of Fashion Illustrations with these ladies very elegantly playing sports (in a teasing Pin-Up girl manner).
These images have sparked my imagination!
I’ve had my eye on this Cat jumper for months and finally decided to treat myself, I do love anything in wide framed glasses! 🙂
I went for a small holiday in Aldeburgh (Wed-Sat) which involved lots of long walks along the beach and in the countryside, I feel completely refreshed and raring to embark on some creative work!
I think I’ll incorporate images of the quirky little houses into my illustrations.
