I’ve been working on a new series for the Dream Ball Auction on behalf of the centre for counselling & phsychotherapy the evening looks set to be truly magical:
My new Artworks which I am creating for the event seem to be taking a new abstract style, I’ve been recording the development as it takes form:
Today I went to CGP Gallery (Canada water) to see the Urban Wildlife exhibition which consisted of works from Primary Schools in Southwark on the theme of inner-city wildlife which children would see in and around their schools:
I found this especially inspirational as on Friday 21st February I will be teaching ‘Urban Wildlife’ drawing classes for 6-14 year olds in the gallery.
The workshops run from 10.30-12.30 and 1-3pm on Friday 21st January or Wednesday 19th with Artist Claire Blundell Jones and are for anyone aged between 6 and 14 years, best of all they are completely free! no need to book just arrive promptly….
Here are a few of my favourites from Southwark Primary schools:
Last week I had a meeting with psychotherapist Rina Malin to discuss my creating a series of works to be exhibited for the ‘Dream Ball’ (Notting Hill) and auctioned with 50% of sales going to ‘HELP Counselling’ of Portobello Road to help celebrate the launch of their ‘Dream Research Institute’ – a fantastic cause and well matched to my work which is created to comfort and evoke nostalgia.
The Artworks must follow the theme of ‘dreams’ (which is also a re-occurring theme in my art) I felt overcome with excitement and started my first piece this evening; I seem to be taking a more abstract approach and have great urge to use large amounts of paint…..as with all my works who knows how they will develop……I work spontaneously and my dolls are my therapy…… my Inner child let loose onto canvas.
I will post further details as my work develops:
I shall be exhibiting one of my sketchbooks into the ‘Off The Shelf’ exhibition:
‘Off the shelf: the self and subjectivity in the artist’s book’ is an exhibition dedicated to various expressions of subjectivity in artist’s publications. It aims to bring together contributions from a variety of formats and editions that consider the self in the artist’s book.
The exhibition will focus on the contemporary publications and welcomes submissions from a wide range of genres, including: handmade books, object-books, sculptural books, altered books, installation books, photobooks, photozines, print-on-demand books, zines, serial editions (artists’ magazines), multimedia books and ebooks. Potential topics might include, but are not limited to:
- Self-portraits as self-analysis
- Archival practices of the self
- Family albums and personal narratives
- Gender and feminist narratives
- Queer identities
- Auto-biography and fictional biographies
- Sexualities and space
- Performance of the self
- Travel book and diasporic strategies’
My sketchbooks are an integral part of the thought and development process of my work, I carry a sketchbook everywhere and always re-use ideas.
The book which I have submitted has been continued with for several years, holding original drawings of my Fashion Dolls to gallery sketches/research drawings and written technical notes and ideas.
It really is a personal insight into my thought process and where it all comes from.
