Just having a gander at some of my original ink drawings, all of my illustrations are drawn by hand and then painted or worked into using the computer…
“I used to be scared of the Siamese Cat who came in your garden”
Pages from an 1800’s book which belonged to my late stepfather, drawing my precious memories some of which existed only to me as a small child and him. X
Here’s a very personal piece of a small series I’ve been working on.
Several weeks ago I found a beautiful old book in the back of a wardrobe, the book belonged to my late stepfather and was from the 1800’s: ‘Puniana’.
The book was so beautiful I didn’t want to take it apart but it was hidden in the back of my wardrobe, discarded and forgotten, I took it upon myself to take the pages out and illustrate a series of the new Artworks. This piece show characters reminiscent of myself as a child and of my Stepfather Tim.
Tim loved his vintage books and objects, he was always reading and owned boxes upon boxes of these books…..it feels natural to add my touch and love to something so precious of Tim’s.
Partially inspired from the text and triggers of childhood pets and memories. X X
So my latest series ‘Vintage Dolls’ are coming along beautifully…..i’m having a great time re-interpreting the Vintage Wallpaper patterns from the Geoffrye Museum using a new colour palette and masking tape as a resist (takes me back to my university days as a textile student) it’s hugely exciting to be able to combine my Surface Pattern knowledge with my fine Art paintings….
I’ve been using collage onto certain pieces and they’re becoming rather surreal……documented the development below:
Here are some updates on how the first painting from my ‘Once in a Dream’ series is coming along; this piece is proving extremely time consuming due to the intricate detailing and beading onto such a large piece (60×30 inches) though admittedly I’m really enjoying spending this length of time on a single piece and the therapeutic qualities of intricate beading.
I am going to start working on 1 or 2 more pieces for the series over the coming days so they can feed inspiration into each other. Inspired by dreams my next ideas will include elements of surreal landscapes and bizarre animal sequences.
These images show my new 60 x 30 inch piece which I’m currently working on, showing the development and changes which my work undergoes from start to finish……..evolving.
This particular piece takes inspiration from a series of surreal dreams which I wanted to share.
Mixed Media; acrylic, gesso, pastel, ink and beading on canvas.
